I have my iPhone for over a year now, and what I’ve noticed is that it does not hold the charge as it used to back when it was brand new and shiny thing. The manual states that after 400 charges, battery holds only 80% of the charge and I think it’s fairly accurate, at least in my case. Now, if you have your iPhone for a while and use it heavily you might need to consider purchasing additional battery packs. I have 2 such packs from BluJuicz: iJuicz Wave and iJuicz Solar.

Let’s look at iJuicz Wave first.

Design wise, it is a very stylish charger. It has the rounded corners, like the iPhone, and its size is nearly the half of the iPhone. It is a little bit thicker than the iPhone. Carrying it in your pocket is quite convenient, and it doesn’t weight too much either.

On the front of the charger there are 4 blue LED lights, which show the status of your battery: full charge means all 4 LED’s are on, and no/low charge is one/no lights. Wave also has a button which tells how much charge is left. This is useful when the device is not plugged in and you want to check on it.

Usually you can charge Wave in under two hours and it takes approximately the same time to charge iPhone from it.

The charger is rated at 1900mAh, which, as I’ve tested it is enough to charge your iPhone fully, doubling its life. It roughly translates to additional 6 hours of talk time, 6 hours of video or 32 hours of music.

I found that the device is a lifesaver on those days that you use your iPhone too much, and it’s a necessity if you go for a longer time without having a place to charge your iPhone.

Score: 9/10

Now let’s look at Waves brother iJuicz solar.

This is a much smaller device than Wave. Build quality is just as great as Wave, and this device fits perfectly with your iPhone. Its thickness exactly matches your iPhone making it look like a continuation of your phone. Very stylish move, I must say, especially because it docks perfectly with your iPhone. Just like Wave it has both input and output connectors to charge the iPhone as well as be charged itself.

Solar mobile power station features two indicators on the front: blue light indicates that you are charging the iPhone, and red shows that Solar is being charged. Unfortunately there is no indicator for when it’s fully charged or two show charge status.

With 800mAh it won’t charge your iPhone fully, but it surely will save you in the hour of need. I’ve tried charging my iPhone from 0%, and it filled it with juice to 60%, which I think is great.

The main advantage though is its ability to charge from solar power, and that’s useful in a place where there are no electrical sockets! Just think, if you are camping and there is no electricity, you could freely charge your iPhone and even watch a movie or two.

One drawback I’ve noticed is that you have to charge it from the sun and then connect to your iPhone. Solar won’t charge your iPhone continuously while plugged into it. Maybe the sun in Canada is not strong enough.

Now if you are out on one of those rainy days, it won’t help you much, however if you are stuck in the office it will charge from bright lamps. And if you have no lamps, you can charge it using your iPhone data cable.

I think this is a great device for people who like travelling/camping in the great outdoors. For just over $40 it is a great bargain to keep your iPhone running that extra mile.

I note that in your review you mention you can't charge the iPhone from solar charger while it is charging the iPhone. But can you operate the iPhone from the solar charger while the iPhone battery is at zero? Or extend the use time when the battery is very low? Or does that not make sense?

Do both batteries you reviewed work the same way in that regard? In other words, an iPhone with zero charge can't run off of either until the portable battery first recharges the iPhone sufficiently?

    Thanks,
