Apple share of smartphone market increases to 13.3% with iPhone 3GS introduction

Apple has gained a huge share in the smartphone market place ever since the release of the iPhone and has climbed to 13.3% with the introduction of the iPhone 3GS. This is according to a report made by the research company Gartner.

Apple shipped more then 5.4 million iPhone units in the second quarter of 2009 while only having sold 892 thousand iPhone units. Gartners report also stated that by lowering the cost of the 8GB iPhone 3G Apple gained a higher sale of units.
As well as that the demand for smartphones has grown by 27% within a year and the top company in the market is still Nokia with a 45% market share.
