8GB iPhone 3GS coming soon? Rumour!

8GB iPhone 3GS might be coming soon, or at least that’s what the latest online rumour states.
As it goes, at the moment the latest iPhone 3GS is only available in 16GB and 32GB sizes for $199/$299 with a 3 year contract, while the previous generation iPhone 3G is still being offered at 8GB for $99.
According to online reports that could not be independently authenticated (so take them with a grain of salt), a German customer that recently bought an 8GB refurbished iPhone 3G from T-Mobile (German exclusive iPhone provider) noticed that the device was labeled as an iPhone 3GS v2.2, 8GB.
Although included in the box was a regular 3G iPhone 8GB, the writings on the box were apparently all referencing to the 8GB iPhone 3GS (see photos).
It remains to be seen whether this was a packaging fluke, a doctored photo, or the real deal. Although, Apple declined comment on the matter, so the rumour might be true after all.
P.S. iPhone World can trace this rumour all the way back to the “8GB iPhone 3GS on Rogers” rumour that first appeared in August 2009 (link), so we can’t vouch for the validity of any of the above.
