iPhone to receive streaming 1080p video from Vimeo

In the very near future, Vimeo will be more in the league with YouTube than ever before when they launch the new feature for their premium members. This new feature will allow users to upload video in full 1080p HD-resolution as well as let them stream 1080p video to the iPhone, Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Pre and Android phones. All premium members will be able to receive this feature with the Vimeo $60 Plus package. YouTube offers video playback in 1080p but not to users of smartphones.
Think this will be a piece of cake? Well there are always downsides and with streaming 1080p video comes the high amount of bandwidth needed. Too slow data speeds will actually cause dropped audio, buffering, and stuttering problems. Vimeo goes with the idea that the content creator should have the options to how their viewers will see their creations and if a person desires higher quality video even without a smooth playback they should be allowed that option.
The service is planned to launch the end of January.
