Finally the Apple iPad was released the news was all over the net, only the particulars were left out. The iPad offers a 9.7-inch touch screen unit allowing users to enjoy the web, multimedia, games, e-books, and messaging. The iPad will be shipped with 12 new apps that were created specifically for the iPad and this unique device will also be able to run just about every more than 140,000 iPhone and iPod Touch applications. The great news for developers is the iPhone SDK beta, which will give them the tools they need to create new applications for the iPhone devices including the iPad.
The iPhone SDK 3.2 beta requires Mac OS X v10.6.2 or later. The iPhone SDK beta is for developing apps and is not intended to be used for submitting apps to the Apple App Store. The iPhone SDK 3.2 beta is pre-release software and at this time is still considered Apple Confidential Information. The iPhone SDK beta download is 2.16 GB and Build # is 10M2132. The iPhone SDK offers a simulator that allows developers to format their interface for larger screen size, abbreviate the debug cycle while in the design process, and test the memory usage of an app. Other features include user experience guidelines, an iPad programming guide, and tools for creating universal application that run across the iPhone devices.
Before any information regarding the specs of the iPad were released, 77% of developers were already interested in the database/storage features, 75% were interested in the interface, 75% were interested in the multi-touch gestures, 72% had their eyes on multitasking while 70% were wanting to learn about the wireless networking.
Appcelerator spokesperson stated, “With multitasking and wireless networking will come an explosion in messaging apps that break free of the iPhone’s prior limitations of a single application only being able to run in the foreground,” and went on to say, “Multi-touch gestures and a new native Tablet interface will give rise to new ways to share and interact with media or learning applications. Expect immediate and massive experimentation with these new capabilities to create more engaging, tactile, and connected experiences that sit between the extended use case of desktop/laptop applications and the immediate gratification use case of mobile.”
