iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch to Receive Textbooks
February 4, 2010 by Anita

A few textbook publishers have joined the parade and will be releasing their textbooks, test prep manuals, and study guides to be read over Apple’s new tablet, but will of course include other Apple devices including the iPhone and the iPod touch.
The announcement came on Wednesday, February 4 with the list of publishers at this time being Kaplan Publishing, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Pearson, and McGraw-Hill Education. The agreements were created with ScrollMotion, which is the company that made the iPhone e-reader app, Iceberg Reader. ScrollMotion is responsible for digitizing books from publishers for mobile users.
Digitizing textbooks offers a wide array of advantages including the ability for students to be able to mark text in six different colors in order to highlight specific areas or lines of text. Writing notes or creating audio notes via the built-in microphone is an added benefit.
The ability to search via topic, subject, or other specifics along with quick videos in some cases is certain to be great educational tools. Interactive tests that allow students to track their answers right on their iPhone device will also be included.
Publishers were ready before the launch of the iPad as noted when McGraw Hill CEO Terry McGraw remarked his company’s textbooks possibly running on Apple’s table the day before the launch of the iPad. The CourseSmart textbook line of McGraw Hill is accessible as an iPhone and iPod Touch app at this time.
Many are talking about the possibility of iPad becoming number one in the market and pushing other e-readers out or causing them to lose sales.
