Apple skipped over Sexy App for the iPhone
March 4, 2010 by Anita

One sexy app did not meet up with Apple’s team of assassins during the latest porn purge. This app honestly even ended up making $10,000 the week after the ban.
Everyone was in the air about the new ban and apps being pulled from the Apps Store that had “overly sexual content”. During the purge over 5,000 apps were removed including Video Strip Poker, SlideHer Nautica, and a few more. Apple explained to the world that parents had complained to the company regarding the ability of children to get their hands on these sexy apps. The big names out there with sexy apps like Sports Illustrated and Playboy did not receive the thumbs down and keep their place in the Apps Store.
The process Apple used to removed apps certainly was not the best way to go as some very clean apps were pulled under the assumption they were sexy like Simply Beach which was nothing more than a shopping app for clothing to wear at the beach.
Some apps that were clean were removed while at least one sexy app made it under the radar and that app was Tubes. Tubes is an iPhone app that offers over 120 pictures of women wearing lingerie. This app was brining in $30 per day before the assassins began on February 15. As these Apple, assassins were making their way through the App Store removing one after another, Tubes profits slowing increased and by the end of the destruction, Tubes was making close to $1,600 per day from their 99-cent download.
Those Apple assassins, however, notice the Tubes app was making this large profit and removed it from the App Store.
The app was missed by the team at Apple, as the creator behind the app did not want it to be offered in the United States. Just from this 99-cent app, everyone can tell there is a big market for sexy apps. The Tubes app was not a huge sexy app, only one with amateurs wearing lingerie, but the developer enjoyed the profits that were made before it was removed.
With that said, the big boys, like Playboy, must be pulling in outlandish profits.
