Download: redsn0w 0.9.6b2 jailbreak for iOS 4.1 iPhone, iPad, iTouch [Mac / Windows]

The iPhone Dev Team have introduced a new version of Redsn0w, v0.9.6b2 for everyone to download.

redsn0w 0.9.6b2 can now jailbreak your iPhone 4 and 3GS (in addition to previously supported 3G), as well as all iTouch models (apart of the 2G-MC version) and the iPad running iOS 4.1.

Note that you should not use it if you’re looking to unlock your iPhone (use Pwnage Tool for that purpose).

And before you do anything, read the entire release note from The iPhone Dev Team below first.

we’ve also incorporated the limera1n exploit into redsn0w. But we’ve added a few extras:

* custom bootlogos for iPhone3G/iPhone3GS/iPod2G users (with qualifying bootroms)
* an option that implements the “DFU” button in PwnageTool. This button (which you can use from Windows) lets you prepare your device for a custom DFU. Even if you’re purely a Windows user, you can get a trusted friend to run PwnageTool over your IPSW to create a custom IPSW. You can now install that custom IPSW on your own Windows box, after you run this redsn0w version.

For Windows users who have run redsn0w and chosen “Just enter pwned DFU mode right now”, your device is now completely vulnerable. Running iTunes and selecting a custom IPSW from PwnageTool (choose it by pressing Shift+Restore)….you’ve now convinced your device and iTunes to restore to a custom firmware. Congratulations!

If you are timid about software and running these programs…please just wait! Don’t jeopardize your carrier unlock for a firmware upgrade. Wait for even easier methods than this latest redsn0w release.

And here’s another important note: make sure you backup your SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella before running redsn0w. Just in case.

Direct Downloads:
- redsn0w (Mac) v0.96 b2
- redsn0w (Windows) v0.96 b2

By the way you can download iPhone’s IPSW firmware files here (you will need them for redsn0w).

does this fix the waiting for reboot fix?

This uses geoh0t’s exploit from limera1n. So it is a completely new hack behind it as opposed to old versions of redsn0w. Most likely it should fix the problem you’re describing.

The easiest way to update an iPhone 4 without updating the baseband is to use TinyUmbrella.

Hi, i hope you can help. I managed to restore a water damaged iphone 3G recently to 4.2.1 official firmware. A few weeks later my iphone crashed and went into recovery mode. I tried to restore it but got error 28. I followed advice to drain battery by unscrewing motherboard and lifting it from battery for a couple of hours. This cured error 28 but ended up with 1604 error upon restore. To fix this error i have tried: -

    on a mac: -
    1) redsn0w then restore with original firmware
    2) pwnage tool to create custom firmware

None have worked and since i have tried these methods i can’t get into recovery mode. I am stuck in DFU mode or at least with a black screen. I can put the iphone into DFU mode both with and without redsn0w and i am stuck with a black screen. If i try the power button, something appears to happen to the screen (faint black comes on and goes off). I now get error 1600 or 1601.

I have also tried on windows xp:-
    1) Snowbreeze
    2) iREB

With these methods i also get error 1600 or 1601.

I have also just tried to use firmware 4.1 both custom and none custom with same error.

Please can you help? Thanks… Dan
