when downloading the ” iPhone 3G firmware v4.2.1″ i am not able to open it up. Why? Is my computer missing a program that is needed to open the firmware download? I notice its a DFU file.
I am trying to unlock my 3g but when i get to the point where it askes me to BROWSE for the firmware i cant seem to open it up and go to the next step. Has anyone endured this issue?!?!

    PLEASE HELP!

  • Captronnyg

When I click on a link for firmware it goes nowhere. Whats up?

  • Anonymous

    Sorry, cannot reproduce this problem.

Which firmware version / iPhone model are you trying to download?

Did you try right clicking and selecting to “save as”?

  • Anonymous

it’s supposed to be an .ipsw file.Try to right click on the link and select to “save as”. I tested it and it works fine.Alternatively try to see what extension it currently has. Try renaming the file extension to .ipsw

  • Redyellow

i got the same issue and tried to save as w/ the ipsw extension (instead of the default zip file)…and it WORKS. yeah!!!! This is the first time I jailbreak and unlock the baseband successfully. love ur site! Thanks a lot.

I tried JB and Unlock with redsn0w 0.9.6b6 my 3gs iphone. But everything is screwed up now. After redsn0w, safary was not loading and the same was with Cydia, so by mistake I tried restoring it using iTune and not my phone is in recovery mode. I don’t know what to do now. Any help would be highly appreciate. Phone was on iOS 4.2.1 and 05.15.04 firmware. Thanks

  • Unkn

The IOS for verison 4.2.1 for the iPhone 3G does not appear to have a ipsw file??

  • Anonymous

That’s a common problem if you’re using Safari. It renamed the extension from ipsw to zip (since in reality ipsw files are actually zip archives)). So just rename it back from .zip to .ipsw. Or use a browser other than Safari to download.

  • Anonymous

Restore it back to factory DFU mode and try again.

  • Vinod

  • Ellie_77

    I upgraded my 3G to 4.2 with 1tunes. then useing redsn0w i applied firmware iPhone1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw and BB iPad1,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw,
All looks good (Faster/smoother) for everything except the phone. Now the Phone does not work at all. It either says ‘No Sim’ or has 1-bar and will not transmit a call or text..
Do I need to upgrade my sim card or is this a problem only on a canadian network.
    What shall I do now?
