The iPhone Dev Team have released a new version of redsn0w, v0.9.6b6 for everyone to download and iPhone World is hosting a local download mirror (scroll to the end of the article).

As previous 0.9.6x redsn0w versions did, redsn0w 0.9.6b6 allows you to jailbreak all iOS devices running firmware 4.1 and 4.2.1, but it adds an important new feature: a “deactivate” option for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS devices (there’s no support for iPhone 4 yet, sorry folks).

According to the iPhone Ded Team this new “deactivate” function was designed with the following purpose in mind:

Developer @sbingner (author of TetherMe) has made some excellent progress devising a new hactivation method that kills two birds with one stone for all you ultrasn0w unlockers. His tool, “Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM)” tricks your iPhone and iTunes into creating legitimate activation tickets even though you’re unlocked with ultrasn0w. This means you get the full benefit of push applications, and your battery life increases substantially. If you’d like to try it out, check out SAM’s description and features.

So essentially redsn0w 0.9.6b6 will allow you to get ultrasn0w 1.2 unlock through Cydia along with an option to install the Subscriber Artificial Module (once again, only on iPhone 3G and 3GS!), thus giving you a sort of legitly activated device (as opposed to traditional hacktivation that has severe restrictions on push apps since your iPhone is not properly registered on Apple’s servers).

is this the whitebox like the one shown in the video tutorial that says something like “uploading files?” if so, then try the “Running as administrator” or the right-click->properties->compatibility mode thing. This is what worked for me.

And now i got rage becasue you have to put your iphone on DFU mode if you use redsn0w, and it failed, AND NOW I FUCKING HAVE TO RESTORE MY IPHONE!!! you have to open redsn0w, then when you are on where you choose what to do with your iphone, then choose boot thetered now, then the rest should you know, and then your iphone works again

It worked gr8 for me for 3G. I not only jailbreak my 4.2.1 but also upgraded my basband from 5.15 to 6.15 through it. therefore also unlocked my fone at 4.2.1. Worked like a charm. Thanks for sharing.

its because its a tethered jailbreak smart one, redsn0w is a good jailbreak. lets see you make a better one. and you dont have to restore your iphone. if you were smart you would know how to use a tethered jailbreak. so stop hating on them. it is completely pointless for you to post that because the i guarantee the iPhone Dev Team will never read your comment so stop hating

start redsnow hit ctrl+alt+delete go to your task manager go to processes find the redsnow on right click and then go to set affinity and set it to pc 1 only it will work then
