iPhone 5 to feature new USB cable connector?
September 9, 2012 by dennis
If the latest iPhone 5 news are to be believed, this iteration of Apple’s smartphone will be shipping with a brand new USB cable connector port, which will in effect render previous generation 30-pin iDevice cables useless when if you’ll get your iPhone 5.
A French blog has received what appear to be photos of the new-style cables that could indicate a major transition in Apple’s USB connection standards, which would also probably affect the iPod Touch 5G and the iPad 3 (or would it be iPad 4 after all?) in addition to the iPhone 5.
As you can see from the photo below, the USB cable port appears to be much smaller than the standard Apple USB cable female port size.
Do you think this new USB connector port would entail a significant upgrade in speed or is it just an attempt by Apple to sell more cables of all kinds (think iPhone 4/4S bumper case sales tactics)? Let us know in comments!
