YouTube’s new iOS 6 ready iPhone app available to download in AppStore
September 11, 2012 by dennis
Following Google’s and Apple’s inability to renew their 5 years old apps bundling deal, which resulted in Google Maps and YouTube apps having been dropped from the upcoming iOS 6 that will be shipping with iPhone 5, today YouTube has launched a brand new spanking app on the AppStore.
This new AppStore version of the app looks sleeker and has some more features than the previous in-built iOS Youtube app, and that is understandable. With YouTube being eliminated from iOS 6 pre-installed apps bundle it will now need to compete for downloads against other well established apps in the AppStore, since users will have to manually search for and install the YouTube iPhone app after upgrading to iOS 6.
YouTube’s new iPhone app includes voice search, better social media integration (with Google+ naturally being the prominently featured social media service) and decidedly a lot more ads than before, as the new app now pushes video ads ahead of video playback – something that its previous bundling deal with Apple apparently strictly disallowed.
All in all, YouTube’s new iPhone app is sleeker than its previous iteration, but it does come at price of a few extra ads that you will need to watch. Is this trade-off worth it? Let us know in comments!
