iPhone Tap Tap Revenge Reports Record Sales
December 22, 2009 by Anita

You may hear some game developers crying due to creating all kinds of game apps for the iPhone and other iPhone devices and not bringing in the big bucks like Tap Tap Revenge. Tap Tap Revenge developer Tapulous is among the lucky ones. The company of only 20 employees is raking in close to $1 million per months.
Why is it that this simple little rhythm game is such a hot item while others are never even seen? The reason is that Apple has sold over 50 million iPhone and other iPhone operating systems. Now, look at the App Store. Apple’s App Store is a great business model that allows developers to add their app’s to the store, market, and sell their apps. Sounds great, unless you are a developer wanting to make it as big as Tapulous since as of this date there are 100,000 apps available.
Around the beginning of the year, the research firm ComScore reported that approximately one-third of iPhone device users had installed Tap Tap Revenge. The latest version of the Tap Tap Revenge 3 is on sale in the App Store for $1.
Other success stories have also been reported such as the iShoot. Wired.com led the news with the story of Ethan Nicholas in February of 2009. Ethan earned $600,000 in one month from sales of this game created for the iPhone. He quit his job and in an interview eight months later with Newsweek, his success was gone. Other game developers came on the market with similar shooting games and his became buried in the 100,000 apps available.
What is behind the success of Tap Tap Revenge? The company explained to Reuters that they generate money through sales of the game, advertising, and songs that are played inside the games.
